Making Micro Mega

Updated: Oct 8, 2020

Beth + Ben 19.09.20

Wow. 266 days since our last wedding of our first year. We ended on such a high and thanks to Beth and Ben we started on Cloud 9 too. A very sparkly one at that!

This was our first Micro Wedding, which was booked as a complete and completely wonderful package. Beth first contacted us at the end of July. Days later the date was set. Weeks later Beth and Ben said ‘I do’. And it was flipping beautiful. Seriously beautiful!

Although we’re a DIY kind of venue (that likes to get stuck in), it’s the first time we’ve really planned, styled and coordinated the whole shebang. We’ve had to adapt this year and our Micro Wedding Package is a glorious result of that adapting. Beth sent a sneaky picture of her insane dress over. Incredible! This then got passed on to The Yummy Pudding Company and the Cumberland Flower Farm who both created utter wonderfulness to match. A beautiful carrot cake that sparkled with pastel tones and gold leaf, topped with the finest blooms, along with the most wonderful bouquet and buttonholes to match. On the menu was a feast by The Stonehouse Smokery, which was created after chatting to Beth and Ben. All to be captured by two very talented chaps, Joe Mather Photography and Jono Symonds on film.

After only ever viewing on Facetime, when Beth and Ben arrived on Friday we gave them the grand tour and showed them the Lovable Old Barn, where they would be saying I do the following day. It was incredibly special and so good to finally meet them! Thank goodness they were head over heels about everything too.

The following morning we served a mighty fine breakfast and a chilled morning followed, relaxing in the sun, taking in the gardens and surrounding area. It was then time to go into separate suites and get ready. Beth did her own hair and makeup with the help of her mum and sister – she wore the most sparkly and utterly gorgeous dress from Needle and Thread London. Dusky pink bow shoes peeped out from underneath to match. Perfection! Ben looked on point in a super dapper suit, tweaked and sharpened up in the Knight's Ruin Bar.

The ceremony for 14 was held in the top of the Lovable Old Barn where pretty flowers popped out of glass decanters and bottles in front of hay bales and twinkling lanterns. Beth’s mum and sis led the way down the aisle, followed by Beth and her dad to meet gorgeous Ben brimming with love. Cumbria Registrars led the ceremony and sealed the two's promise to each other.

Micro Wedding Ceremony, Covid wedding, 2020 bride

Photos in the garden and champagne followed along with a roof down drive to local Crummock Water for a lil shoot before speeches and dinner.

Back at the ranch, one gorgeous (extra) long table took centre stage in the Lovable Old Barn with the cake sparkling in the corner. Ben’s speech was, well, watch the film and you’ll see. It was a killer. (The film's at the end, do not miss it!)

The feast from Stonehouse Smokery was then served after it had been straw-wrapped and cooked to perfection over an open fire for hours. The menu was epic – to give you a little taster it included, free range artisan charcuterie, Wood roasted rib of Lakeland Dexter Beef, Grilled Courgettes, Lemon, feta, mint and pomegranate. Hell yes to that!

With the ever changing regulations Beth and Ben dusted each one off like troopers, they were getting married, with or without Covid, masks, sanitiser and whatever else we had to do to make it happen and happen safely.

Covid wedding, Micro wedding, Love always wins, 2020 wedding

To be completely honest we were so nervous about the restrictions and how everything would go. After weeks of sleepless nights over Covid’s effect on our mega venture & business, this one day changed everything. Covid hasn’t changed weddings forever. Not even for the short term. The excitement, the beauty, the magic, the overwhelming feeling of love and joyous laughter? It’s all still there. It’s bursting at the seams in fact. 30, 15, 2 or 200. That kind of emotion and love won't going anywhere. Whatever the restrictions. Whatever the date. Love will always win.

A note from Beth + Ben ..."We thought we'd have a long engagement, but after speaking with @lowhallthelakes about their venue and micro weddings, we just thought screw Covid, let's do it! Let's get hitched!

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to say "I do" and we can't thank Francesca and Ben enough for arranging all of our suppliers in just a matter of weeks! Their attention to detail and style suited us down to a tee, so we trusted them with everything.

All that was left for us to do was find THE DRESS, a lush suit and a couple of gold rings to seal the deal!

Thank you to the amazing @jonosyomnds for creating this stunning video and capturing such an important moment in our lives.

And a huge thank you to all of our suppliers. Francesca and Ben, your taste is impeccable!"

Now, prepare for all the feels and more with Jono Symonds beautiful story of their day.

To Beth and Ben, thank you for entrusting us with your day and bringing all your love to Low Hall. Seeing your faces made us so thankful, proud and humbled that we really do have the most wonderful job in the world. We shall look forward to giving you both an almighty hug when we’re finally allowed. PS, this means you must come back and visit!

And a massive thank you to the incredible team...

Decor and styling, us @lowhallthelakes

One very final note, something which I've pinched from @lulabeeweddings who shared a quote from Harry Potter this last week, I feel it’s kind of appropriate for Beth + Ben’s love story too;

Ginny Weasley. “Seems silly, doesn’t it? A wedding. Given everything that’s going on?”

Harry Potter’s response, “Maybe that’s the reason to have it. Because of everything that’s going on.”
